Interesting. Thanks, Marilyn. I just responded to an evite to a networking event from a therapist and the very next day received her newsletter. I get between 10 and 15 newsletters from various people and really do not have time to read them. I would like to opt in at my choice instead of opting out after the fact. Thanks for your insights and info.

I used to frequent Boggy Creek Farm when I lived in Austin. What a delightful family and farm! I even did a short documentary over the slow food movement and local eating. They were so gracious to let me film and as I did, I grew addicted to their food and have been a lover of local foods every since. Thanks for using them as an example- they are a shining beacon to the local food movement, and apparently in marketing as well! Can't wait to visit again!

Marilyn, you nailed it with your question on refining knowledge of our customers. The CRM is just a tool...if we don't collect and maintain important information on our customers and prospects, then that's our failure.

My one tip for success is to remember that direct mail is one channel in a multichannel marketing plan. Along with a compelling Ask, build touch points in the direct mail that guide individuals to not only make contact offline (through phone) but also through special URLs that help complete a circuit into the online CRM.
